The Challenge Wasn’t to Build a New Ship. It Was to Build the Next Mein Schiff.
Creating a new cruise ship is a complex undertaking. Creating the next generation of an established and highly successful cruise brand is considerably more demanding.
With the InTUItion Class, TUI Cruises set out to solve a rare design challenge: how to evolve the design DNA that defined the first generation of Mein Schiff while responding to changing guest expectations and establishing a new benchmark for contemporary cruise architecture. The ambition was not reinvention, but meaningful evolution.
The result is a design philosophy embodied by Mein Schiff Relax and continued with Mein Schiff Flow. Rather than relying on spectacle, the concept redefines luxury through space, light and an intensified connection to the sea.
At the heart of this transformation is a fundamentally reimagined spatial experience. The iconic Marcoon introduces a new form of outdoor architecture, balancing exposure and shelter while extending the usability of exterior spaces throughout the day. The Agora creates a multifunctional environment where leisure, entertainment and social interaction are seamlessly integrated within a single architectural setting.
Inside, traditional boundaries between interior and exterior are deliberately blurred. The Atrium becomes the social and visual heart of the vessel, flooded with natural daylight and framed by expansive glazing. Carefully orchestrated sightlines extend from the Barista Bar through the surrounding public spaces and towards the horizon, establishing a continuous visual dialogue with the sea. Throughout the ship, transparency, openness and natural light transform the ocean from scenery into a defining design element.
The InTUItion Class also reinterprets premium accommodation. Building upon the successful X-Areas concept, the suite experience evolves into an integrated ecosystem of exclusive lounges, restaurants and outdoor retreats. At the same time, dedicated solo balcony cabins and thoughtfully designed accessible accommodation reflect a more inclusive understanding of contemporary travel.
What distinguishes the InTUItion class is its ability to innovate without abandoning identity. The qualities long associated with the Mein Schiff experience, spaciousness, wellbeing, intuitive comfort and proximity to the sea, remain unmistakable while being expressed through a completely new architectural language.
