Recently, we sat down with MJM Marine to learn about what makes MJM one of the industry’s most valued outfitters, the ins and outs of good project management, and what’s next for this trailblazing supplier.
Congratulations on winning Supplier of the Year! What are the values and skills that you think make MJM Marine one of the top suppliers working in the cruise industry today?
MJM Marine, from its early roots has maintained a deep commitment to a set of core values. These are at the centre of all we do. Our core values are:
- A Can-Do attitude
- Reliability and Service Excellence
- Craftsmanship and Quality
- Investment in our People
- Teamwork and Collaboration
Our trusted, progressive, and valued reputation within the industry has been built over 40 years of experience. Many of our employees have been with MJM for several years and take pride in the business’ achievements. Their passion and commitment to client satisfaction ensures that we deliver a great service.
A successful outfitter works to tight timelines with multiple stakeholders. Is there any secret to good project management?
We have a highly experienced technical and contract delivery team who first assess the scope and complexity of all projects. This allows them to understand the works required. These can range from mechanical, electrical, and structural services to onboard services such as catering and meeting USPH and ADA requirements. This assessment assists our contracts and estimating team in determining the necessary resources to deliver the works. Depending on the project’s complexity, we draft a project specific risk register to ensure that we and our clients are informed of the scope and demarcation of responsibilities. Having the assessments carried out in this manner enables our team to draft an appropriate delivery programme factoring in design, manufacture, procurement, delivery, and installation. This overall ensures the project is delivered within the confines of the Design Development.
MJM Marine expanded in 2022, including a satellite office in Gdansk. Can you tell us more about MJM’s recent expansions and what they mean for the business?
MJM Marine has long had a proud connection with Poland. Many of our Northern Ireland workforce are originally from Poland and our supply chain has a strong Polish element. Opening an office in Gdansk has been a great step in strengthening our close relationship with the country and its citizens. It adds to our global expansion plans and commitment to attracting a diverse talent pool and a strong supply chain throughout the EU.
Can you share anything exciting from MJM Marine’s 2023 plans?
2022 was a positive year for MJM and winning Supplier of the year at CSI Awards was the perfect ending. So far, 2023 is shaping up to be another memorable year for MJM. The overall industry has a real enthusiasm and air of positivity that’s great to see following the pandemic. We will be busy assisting our clients with refurbishments as well as some new and exciting innovations. Our antimicrobial light partnership with VYV continues to provide a more sustainable option for cruise operators, whilst our carpet and upholstery division has strengthened our support services.
Of course, we can’t forget about Cruise Ship Interiors Design Expo Americas. We look forward to attending and seeing old friends and connections and extending our network in Miami.
