Specialist Installation of a Seven-Part Barrisol® Light Circle

Submitted by: Nico Niederstein
Supplier: F. Niederstein & Sohn GmbH
Found onboard: Disney Cruise Line – Disney Destiny

Installed aboard Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Destiny at the Meyer Werft facility in Eemshaven, this bespoke seven-part Barrisol® light circle demonstrates the importance of precise specialist installation in cruise interiors.

F. Niederstein & Sohn GmbH installed 29.12 linear metres of curved Barrisol MiniStar BMS 340/01 profiles onto an existing 14 mm aluminium sandwich structure and tensioned 12.38 m² of membrane into the completed seven-part frame. The circular geometry required accurate positioning, clean transitions and consistent membrane tension across every segment to create one visually continuous architectural feature.

The result transforms a technically demanding ceiling installation into a refined focal point that brings together light, form and surface while meeting the spatial and coordination demands of a shipbuilding environment.

Realised for KNOOFS upcycling GmbH, the project demonstrates successful specialist collaboration. F. Niederstein & Sohn GmbH was responsible for the onboard profile installation and precision tensioning of the Barrisol membrane.

This project deserves recognition because its quality is defined not only by the individual components, but by the specialist craftsmanship required to translate a bespoke design into a precisely finished cruise interior feature.
