REDESIGN OF THE CREW GYM | MS AMERA A PROJECT BY P-O-I.DESIGN

At P-O-I.Design, we believe well-designed spaces can shape daily routines but also create team spirit, personal motivation and dedication to the most sophisticated tasks staff will have during a shift or even their entire duty on board a cruise ship. Based on our design philosophy, we were entrusted with redesigning the Crew Gym on board the MS Amera — a space where functionality meets purpose and design meets motivation.

Our design approach was guided by two strong, recurring mottos: “Trust the process” and “Until it’s done.” These mottos became more than just slogans — they served as the conceptual backbone of the entire project.

A STRONG VISUAL IDENTITY

We developed a clear and energetic color concept based on red and gray tones — red representing strength and activation and gray structure and clarity. Together, the two colors of choice help create a stimulating yet balanced training atmosphere for crew staff. The color palette supports the gym’s identity as a place of focus and endurance, reflecting the demands and mindset of its users.

BETTER ZONING – BETTER FLOW

In order to improve orientation and usability, we introduced a custom-designed room divider into the existing structure. This element allows for better zoning and defines distinct training areas, including zones for strength training, cardio, stretching, and recovery, while maintaining an open and connected spatial flow. The result is a more intuitive, user-friendly environment that encourages efficient, purposeful workouts.

DESIGN WITH PURPOSE

For us, this project for Phoenix Reisen GmbH was about more than just aesthetics. It was about creating a space that motivates and supports the Phoenix crew – day in and day out. The new Crew Gym reflects our commitment to combining design intelligence with human needs, even in the most compact or specialized environments.
