“Every restaurant we open is a statement about what we believe dining at sea can be, and Ariya says something we haven’t said before,” said Virgin Voyages CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu. That statement starts with the room itself. The palette is layered directly from an Indian spice market: turmeric yellow, sumac red and saffron, deepened with clove, cumin and toasted paprika, so the space reads as vibrant and grounded rather than themed. Curated motifs and natural textures root that palette in tradition, while a contemporary design language keeps the room composed rather than cluttered: the result is a space built specifically for gathering, sharing and lingering over food, not simply for looking at.

That material language is curatorial, not decorative. Commissioned artwork throughout the room reads like maps of memory: hand-drawn patterns, block-printed forms and textile-inspired layers created by contemporary Indian artists reinterpreting ancient geometries, coastal mythology and temple motifs. Natural stone, native woods and woven fibre ground the space in the coastal textures of Cuddalore, India, the birthplace of Ariya herself, Sir Richard Branson’s great-great-grandmother, while kolam floor patterns and the sunbird, a small hummingbird-like token adorning the space, carry forward her own belief that light and connection travel together. Every surface was chosen to be touched and read, not just admired.

The dining experience was designed into that architecture, not beside it. Developed with Indie Culinaire by chef Maneet Chauhan, the menu moves Sailors through India’s regions the way Ariya herself once moved through ports: playful chaats and gol guppa give way to moilee, biryani and tandoor-led dishes built for sharing across a table. That same range of intimacy plays out across the room itself: highly sought-after cuddle booths built for two, banquette groupings wrapped in lush, subtropical foliage, screened private dining for quieter moments, and bar seating where the nighttime rhythm really picks up. Cocktails built on spice, tea, fruit and Indian spirits extend that same journey from bar to table, supported by chai, wine pairings and a full zero-proof list. Food, drink, tabletop and presentation give the interior a lived rhythm, turning a well-designed room into a space that feels soulful, social and distinctly Virgin Voyages.
