The Atrium and Grand Stair on Allura is an overture, giving guests their first spectacular glimpse of what’s to come on the rest of the ship. Studio DADO used the language of the sea to create a study in contrasts, at once dramatic and striking on the grand staircase while still calm and inviting in the seating areas, anchoring the ship’s social life and establishing its tone.

The design is inspired by the nautilus shell, a natural form known for its fluid geometry and quiet strength. Guests enter into an expansive, uncluttered space where light, proportion, and materiality work together to create a sense of awe. At its center, a sculptural staircase echoes the curves of a shell’s chambers. This procession guides guests visually and physically, making movement through the space an experience. Overhead, a custom chandelier by Lasvit cascades from ceiling to floor, suggesting a vortex of water or a school of fish rising toward the surface. The effect is mesmerizing and changes as guests move through the room. Herringbone tilework with gold inlays adds a subtle shimmer, tying the floors to the light above.

The atrium balances grandeur with comfort. Transitional furniture pieces soften the scale, giving guests spaces to pause, converse, and look out toward the sea. Behind the reception, a nautically inspired mural framed by a custom screen adds a point of focus, while organic stone slabs ground the service areas with warmth and permanence. Every element was designed for Allura, including the carpet and lighting. The result is a space that feels both monumental and deeply personal, ready to welcome thousands of travelers while still making each one feel seen.
