At Baumann Dekor, sustainability isn’t just a practice or a marketing tool – it’s the core of our creativity and innovation. As a textile factory with consistently ongoing research and development, we are often left with fabric cuts that are beautiful but not commercially useful. We believe that no waste can be termed as waste until it is wasted. So, we give every cut a new life by upcycling them into pouches, bags, cushions etc.

Our latest development of upcycled shoes is bound to leave a green footprint! We partnered with Plaeto Shoes, known for game-changing design, comfort, and technology, to transform our fabric offcuts into something extraordinary.
For the past two years, we have been gifting these shoes as promotional material at CSI shows, and are delighted to report many pairs of happy feet in the Cruise community.

Powered by Plaeto’s high-resilience cushioning, tilt lacing that follows natural contour of the feet, and a roomier toe box, the sneakers are designed for feet that walk long and work hard. Crafted from beautiful fabric cuts, every pair keeps valuable textile material out of landfills while upcycling and value-adding, with each pair packed in an upcycled fabric bag. Striking satins in bold patterns and textured chenille with abstract forms transform these materials into never-seen-before designs and colours, making every pair a limited-edition creation.

True sustainability means products that stand the test of time, combining quality, comfort, and performance without compromising on style. With efforts to source right materials and develop designs with fewest components and least processing steps, all without sacrificing the performance, Plaetos already have a 50% lower carbon footprint than any average athletic shoe and are on a sustainability journey towards a net zero carbon footprint. Plaeto’s facility is located close to one of our production units, keeping raw-material travel miles low.

The innovation also presents a meaningful opportunity for the cruise industry, where crew members spend 8–10 hours a day on their feet performing physically demanding tasks. BDxPlaeto shoes can offer the comfort and durability their demanding jobs require while supporting the industry’s growing commitment to responsible practices.
