Closing the Loop in the Cruise Industry

Every cruise-ship refurbishment creates a choice: dispose of yesterday’s interior—or turn it into the raw material for tomorrow’s cruise experience.

Oceancircle has developed cruise-specific circular take-back systems that transforms refurbishment materials into traceable second-life products.

We recover carpets, underlays, artificial turf, mattresses, life jackets, mooring ropes, outdoor furniture and temporary protection materials directly from vessels and shipyards. From separation and on-site volume compaction to transport, specialised processing and product development, we manage the entire journey from discarded material to valuable new resource.

Our innovation is not simply another recycled product. It is the infrastructure that makes circularity work within the demanding realities of cruise refurbishment: short dry-dock windows, diverse material streams, international logistics and strict operational requirements.

The system is already proving its potential. Old carpet fibres and recovered mattresses are transformed into new carpet underlay. Used mooring lines become lanyards, keyrings and onboard merchandising products. Life jackets are transformed into distinctive lifestyle items, while their foam is recovered for new marine applications. Polypropylene protection boards are collected, compacted, recycled and manufactured into new boards for future refurbishment projects—creating a direct product-to-product loop. Artificial grass is shredded, ground and processed into new recycled PP granulate. This secondary raw material can then be used to manufacture new products, keeping the polymer in productive use instead of allowing it to enter conventional disposal routes.

Most importantly, all of these resources can return to the cruise environment as products guests and crew can see, touch and understand.

Sustainability becomes tangible rather than abstract.

Oceancircle is not merely recycling cruise interiors. We are building a scalable circular infrastructure that allows cruise interiors to become resources again—across materials, vessels, shipyards and fleets.
