Collaboration creates new solutions

In a special collaboration between two suppliers to the cruise industry, the focus is on identifying solutions to the challenge of waste from cruise ship interiors.

What is presented here is not a final solution, but a pilot project that will hopefully create ground for even more innovation and the search for solutions, across stakeholders and companies in the industry. The case serves as an example of how we can find new solutions through collaboration and innovation. At the same time, we believe that it is important to share experiences, even before the final solution is available, so that we can inspire and learn from each other.

From carpet waste to signage and artworks

Through a pilot project, Dansk Wilton has converted end-of-life carpets into new materials. A special technology makes it possible to make both felt and solid boards, which in turn can be transformed into new innovative interior solutions in the form of either furniture, acoustics, signs, artworks etc. The material is called RE:SHAPE.

At Marahrens, extensive work is being done to find exciting new solutions based on both recycled and sustainable materials and new technologies, such as 3D printing.

Thus, a collaboration between Dansk Wilton and Marahrens was obvious, and the dialogue took off after initial discussions at CSI in Miami in June 2022.

Marahrens has thus worked with the RE:SHAPE material and created new exciting signage solutions and artworks. Initially at prototype level, but both companies have a desire to continue the collaboration, in the hope of being able to offer part of a solution to the industry’s challenges with waste.

Drinks menu for Mein Schiff 3 in cooperation with TUI Cruises

The collaboration also includes a concrete project for TUI Cruises Mein Schiff 3 in a newly renovated “green” bar area, where the RE:SHAPE material is transformed into a cocktail card and the foot of the display is 3D printed in a material based on recycled fishing nets. On the back of the display TUI Cruises want to tell the story about the recycled material to the guests on board making it part of the guest experience.
