Grand Bahama Shipyard
Grand Bahama Shipyard (GBSL) is nominated for Shipyard of the Year on the strength of the assembly and integration of the Lucayan floating dry dock, one of the most significant single engineering undertakings in the shipyard’s history, and a genuine step-change in what the facility can now deliver.
Lucayan measures 413.96 meters in length and 79 meters in width, with a lifting capacity of approximately 130,000 tons, placing it as the largest floating dry dock on this side of the hemisphere.
On assembly, GBSL’s team managed the complex, multi-month integration of Lucayan into live shipyard operations. The team successfully coordinated pier and infrastructure upgrades, mooring and utility systems, and workforce readiness while simultaneously operating its first new dock, East End, which had entered service earlier in the year. East End itself measures 357.39 meters by 70 meters with a 93,500-ton lifting capacity and became operational when it docked the Carnival Elation in January 2026 — meaning GBSL executed two major new floating-dock integrations back-to-back within a single operating season.
On Craftsmanship and Engineering Experience, this integration required GBSL’s production teams to bring an entirely new class of infrastructure into safe, certified operation. Extending piers, upgrading power and mooring systems, and preparing crane and control systems to Lloyd’s Register standards, all while maintaining an active repair schedule for existing customers.
On World-Class Benchmarks, the completed integration of Lucayan alongside East End gives Grand Bahama Shipyard the lifting capacity to service every cruise ship currently in operation or under construction, including Icon-class vessels, positioning the yard among the largest and most capable ship repair facilities anywhere in the world; a scale of capability matched by very few yards globally.
GBSL’s 2026 story is one of a shipyard executing an infrastructure transformation of rare scale, safely, on schedule, and without interrupting its commitment to existing customers.
