World Dream, previously operated by Genting Cruises, was acquired by Cruise Saudi in February 2023. This 335-metre, 151,000 GT super-class vessel underwent the largest refit refurbishment ever completed on a cruise ship, spanning 18 decks of public and accommodation spaces. The extensive refurbishment, which is set to conclude in early 2025, represents an ambitious 22-month timeframe from purchase to delivery. SMC Design was tasked with designing 80% of the ship within just three months, followed by a further three months to finalize detailed drawings and specifications. This project involved a dedicated team of over 40 architects and designers working simultaneously, marking the most challenging and expansive refit SMC Design has undertaken to date.
Previously a VIP junket casino, the area was transformed into Cruise Saudi’s Meast a Turkish steakhouse signature dining venue that stands out as one of SMC Design’s most remarkable transformations. The refit of this Category A space involved stripping the casino down to its bare steel framework and constructing an entirely new galley from scratch.
Meast’s menu is centred around premium meat dishes with Turkish infusions. Upon arrival, guests are greeted at the Maître d’ desk and pass by the feature meat lockers, which display a curated selection of aged premium cuts. The locker is illuminated to highlight the craftsmanship of Meast’s master butcher, create a dramatic focal point for the restaurant.
Designed to offer an intimate dining experience, Meast accommodates only 100 guests ensuring a personalized service and attention to detail. The colour scheme is intentionally much darker in contrast with the rest of the ship, and features charcoal tones, blackened metal framing, whitest stitched hide leathers to evoke a more masculine ambiance to the restaurant. The space is further enriched by intricately carved marquetry wall panelling, inspired by traditional Turkish geometry and patterns, adding warmth and sophistication. These bespoke carvings, designed by SMC, reflect the high level of craftsmanship invested in this exclusive venue and the dishes it serves.
A standout feature of Meast is the traditional Turkish pide oven, which continuously bakes signature flatbreads and other Turkish delicacies. The flickering flames of the pide oven enhance the authentic ambiance, providing a warm and inviting backdrop that completes the experience of this distinguished Turkish restaurant.
