Meyer Wismar
The MEYER WISMAR team has not only revived a historic shipyard but redefined what excellence in modern shipbuilding looks like. Their journey over the past years is a masterclass in resilience, innovation and teamwork.
In November 2022, the MEYER WERFT Group founded MEYER WISMAR and successfully took over and transformed the former MV Werften site shipyard in Wismar undertaking the ambitious redesign and completion of the Disney Adventure for Disney Cruise Line (Orlando, USA).
The 342-meter and 200,000 GT cruise ship is designed to be one of the most sustainable vessels in the industry and has been equipped with cutting-edge green technologies, setting new standards for carbon-neutral cruising.
During the last 3 years the team has successfully accomplished an unprecedented combination of retrofit and new construction during which they transformed e.g. the propulsion system from heavy fuel oil to methanol-ready and repurposed the vessel from a casino to a family ship.
To realise this challenging and one-off project MEYER WERFT rebuilt a skilled workforce from the ground up, employing hundreds of former MV Werften team members and creating over 1,000 jobs in Wismar. They also fostered a culture of collaboration across borders, with specialists from Estonia, Poland, and Germany working side by side to deliver a world-class vessel.
It is fair to say that this team rose to the challenge and grew closer together as a result. They did not just build the biggest ship ever built in Germany —they built hope, jobs, and a vision for the future. MEYER WISMAR exemplifies what it means to be a shipyard team of the year: bold, brilliant, and deeply committed to excellence.
