For nearly two decades, CUBIK3 has been entrusted by PHOENIX REISEN to transform their cruise ships, ensuring they meet the highest standards of design and functionality. Our recent work on the MS AMERA’s Ocean Restaurant exemplifies our commitment to blending design excellence with rigorous safety requirements, while skillfully navigating the challenges of the existing structure.

The design focuses on a classic contemporary style that harmonizes with the ship’s architecture, creating an inviting atmosphere. The main fine dining venue offers guests sweeping ocean views. The open, airy ambiance was achieved through careful attention to lighting, ceiling design, and seating arrangement, ensuring that every guest can enjoy the ocean view, whether seated on the central bench or in one of the upholstered chairs.

Refurbishment projects inevitably come with challenges. Accommodating 304 guests within a limited space, while contending with unavoidable steel substructures, platforms, and a complicated existing HVAC system at the restaurant’s center, required an innovative approach. These obstacles were not merely overcome but transformed into distinctive design features. The central steel substructure was reshaped where possible, leading to the creation of a parapet wall with comfortable, upholstered seating on the window-facing side below, and loose seating on the upper level. A delicate screen element was added to the parapet, allowing guests on the upper platform to maintain their privacy without obstructing the ocean views of those seated below.

At the heart of the restaurant, special seating areas were created around the existing steel platform, defined by a unique ceiling design that seamlessly integrates the HVAC system, rendering it invisible + reversible and serves an acoustic purpose by powder-coated felt segments. These exclusive seating areas, designated for the Captain’s Dinner, are further distinguished by elegant curtains, enhancing the overall dining experience.

The renovation captures the essence of the “Ozean Restaurant” with an ocean-inspired color palette, from wave blues to deep sea tones. Dark woods and custom pendant lights create a soft glow, floating above each table. This thoughtful design ensures that the “Ozean Restaurant” is not just a place to dine, but an immersive experience for all on board.
