You may be wondering why we are submitting a product instead of a project. Holland America’s recycled coaster project is unprecedented, as no brand has ever created new products from old carpet to then be sold on board. This project required immense cross-brand collaboration across guest experience, product development, onboard revenue, interior design, and external vendors. This effort reflects Holland America’s dedication to showing that sustainability is not just a product or project but a core brand value. For us, sustainability is defined through action, and this project brought about by many people, led to an industry-leading innovation.
