Studio DADO sees dining on a cruise ship as a stage for storytelling. At Red Ginger on Oceania’s Allura, the design team captured a rare moment in cultural history when French glamour intersected with the intrigue of Asian theatre. The result is an environment that feels both cinematic and intimate, where every corner invites exploration.
The restaurant unfolds like a journey through a private residence in Hong Kong or Shanghai. Guests first encounter a moody entrance marked by chinoiserie pottery, pagoda-shaped lamps, and two striking birdcage chairs. The main dining room opens into a double-height courtyard ringed by a lower-level walkway, an architectural move that gives the room dimension and drama.
Every detail is curated for impact. Walls are dressed in hand-painted landscapes, and massive chandeliers become sculptural features, echoing the lanterns of Hoi An in Vietnam. A wall of handblown glass pieces, layered over an aged mirror backdrop, amplifies the sense of mystery. In the private dining area, a sweeping banana leaf mural anchors the room and connects the narrative to nature.
Red Ginger’s palette is lush but disciplined, with textures that invite touch and details that reward a closer look. French colonial-style caning, dark woods, and metallic accents provide warmth and depth, while theatrical lighting guides the experience from arrival to dessert.
