MJM Marine are thrilled and proud to announce the successful delivery of projects aboard Utopia of the Seas. From Saint-Nazaire in western France, where the ship was built, to Ponce in Puerto Rico, for finalisation, to Port Canaveral, the Utopia of the Seas made its entry into service on Friday 19th July. The Utopia of the Seas is the 6th Oasis Class ship that MJM Marine has worked on for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. MJM Marine was once again chosen as a trusted partner to take on an ambitious new project. MJM Marine was contracted to deliver some of the new concept areas transforming multiple key public venues onboard. Although MJM Marine worked on multiple key areas onboard the ship, the most innovative project onboard the new ship was the first-at-sea evolution of “The Royal Railway”. This out of this world immersive dining experience, derived inspiration and romanticism from the iconic Grand Central Station in New York City. From the moment they step onto Platform Number 7 in Utopia Station passengers are transported back to a time when train travel was the height of elegance and luxury. The Royal Railway’s multisensory dining experience will transfer diners on a virtual train journey throughout the American Frontier all whilst enjoying delicious food and beverages in the iconic destinations. Using visual screens, sound effects and simulations passengers are no longer travelling on the high seas but instead are being transported across land to breath-taking destinations. As the Royal Railway starts to set off subwoofers in the seats provide a gentle jolt as the train disembarks providing a clear sensation of movement for passengers.

Authenticity and design were important to achieve throughout the entire project to provide diners with an unforgettable experience. Throughout the contract, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and MJM Marine engaged in various creative and design-oriented activities, including visits to MJM’s Newry headquarters where rigorous design workshops were undertaken alongside material sourcing and prototype assemblies were carried out. An enlightening visit to a Down Railway Museum in Downpatrick provided opportunity for the team to research and experience the feel of being in a periodic train carriage. Overall, The Royal Railway onboard the Utopia of the Seas raises guest expectations from memorable to unforgettable experience for guests. The Royal Railway is a truly magnificent train inspired dining experience for all to enjoy.
