World Dream from Genting Cruises was sold to Cruise Saudi in 2023. The 335m 18 deck ship has had a major refurbishment. SMC Design are lead architects for the interior design of 80% & FF&E, wayfinding, branding & art-sourcing for the entire ship. The brief: to create a luxurious family-oriented cruise ship for the Saudi Arabian market.
Sailor Shore, Aroya’s kids area, is one of the largest in the industry, spanning 1858m² across Fire Zone 2. The ocean themed venue is thoughtfully divided into distinct zones catering to all kids age groups & activities delivering fun & excitement. All designed in close collaboration with TigerPlay, a leading innovator in children’s play equipment.
Highlights:
Bridge Simulator: A thrilling experience! Kids pretend to be a ship captain, steering the ship & enjoying an interactive maritime adventure.
Flexible Theatre Space: Featuring rotating programs on each cruise, i.e. fashion shows, talent competitions, dress-up & a diverse range of entertainment activities.
Playzone 1: Designed for infants aged 6mths – 2yrs, this nursery has soft play elements & a crèche.
Playzone 2: A creative workshop. Kids can build and paint their own model ships, guided by digital interactive tablets. There’s an interactive Chefs’ Academy, where onboard chefs teach kids to cook.
Playzone 3: Tailored for kids aged 3-6. Dynamic climbing frame, engaging floor projections, ball pits & thematic elements like coastal seascapes, underwater worlds & a cinema area.
Playzone 4: For kids aged 7-12, this zone has a chill-out lounge, Xbox/PS5 gaming space, climbing wall & a ‘Ninja Warrior’ style course with a foam/ball pit, all cleverly utilising a repurposed jacuzzi.
Teen Zone: Offering activities incl. a cinema area, foosball table, shuffleboard, ping pong table, & an interactive floor-to-ceiling gaming wall.
The ocean-themed design of the Kids’ Area integrates the fun vibrant colours of a tropical reef, its underwater environment & the oceans’ diverse sea life.
Innovative lighting solutions enhance the experience whilst interactive floor projections dynamically go with each zone’s ocean theme.
Age-appropriate zoned areas are accessed with RFID wristbands. Noise levels are controlled well through strategic zoning & material choices.
Transforming a refurbished spa space into such a versatile exciting environment for kids was a challenging & rewarding feat. The result is a fun-filled area that caters to all ages, with plenty of engaging & stimulating activities.
