Meyer Turku Oy – Sustainable Stateroom

Submitted by: Meyer Turku Oy
Cruise Line & Ship Name: Meyer Avatar

MEYER aims to be a forerunner in the green transition of shipbuilding through its ambitious RDI consortium NEcOLEAP. Together with more than 100 Finnish companies, MEYER is strengthening its competence to develop a climate-neutral cruise ship concept by the end of 2025.

Sustainable Stateroom is a good example of our internal development where we have active collaboration with various stakeholders. The carbon footprint of staterooms is one of the most notable topics of shipbuilding emissions. By focusing on development of one module only, a big share of the ship scale challenge can be tackled. New knowledge and understanding about stateroom can also be widely used for the ship’s public areas. In addition, Stateroom is also an ideal case to enhance the future guest experience, where sustainability and user-friendly smart functionalities are taken to the next level.

The project focuses also on SMART features of the stateroom, identifying operational efficiencies that simultaneously contribute to emissions reduction and enhance the overall customer experience. Project has identified significant energy consumption reduction potential in staterooms. Also, possibilities to reduce water consumption and maximize the comfort in the staterooms have been identified.

Under the Sustainable Stateroom project Meyer has gathered an excessive list of alternative material. Synergies have been found with Material Management project where future materials and products are gathered to an innovative MaMa Marine software under development for cruise ship interior materials lifecycle management. Under the software stakeholders, shipyard, architects, turnkey companies, suppliers, and ship owners can collaborate seamlessly.
