Aboard the Atlas World Traveller, design meets discovery in a way that redefines the cruise experience. Conceived by the French-Portuguese design duo OITOEMPONTO – Artur Miranda and Jacques Bec – in collaboration with Mystic Cruises’ architecture team, the interiors embody a timeless Italian sensibility that celebrates La Dolce Vita. Every element of this intimate, yacht-style expedition ship is carefully crafted to immerse guests in the destinations they explore. Among the ship’s public areas, the Dome Observation Lounge emerges as its architectural centerpiece: a signature venue that dissolves the boundaries between interior space and the surrounding seascape.
Perched high above the bow, The Dome commands an unrivalled vantage point, offering 270-degree views through sweeping floor-to-ceiling glass. Guests are enveloped in light and landscape, with horizons stretching endlessly ahead. Here, the architecture itself frames the landscape: glaciers glistening in polar dawns, waves glittering under tropical sunsets, and city skylines slowly revealing themselves as the ship approaches port.
Measuring 240 m² (2,583 sq ft), the space is thoughtfully arranged to accommodate both quiet moments and lively gatherings. 18 tables, 10 bar stools, and a mix of seating configurations, from intimate two-person arrangements to a single 10-seat table designed for shared storytelling. With capacity for 105 guests, it adapts seamlessly from day to night, from exploration briefings to intimate musical performances.
By day, travellers relax with fine teas, artisanal snacks, or craft beers, letting the ever-changing scenery drift by. By evening, the atmosphere shifts, the soft glow of ambient lighting reflects off panoramic glass, conversations flow, and live entertainment fills the air. The result is not only a social hub but also a contemplative retreat, a place where architecture choreographs atmosphere, community, and memory.
Architecturally, The Dome is both elegant and intentional. Its forward-facing position and wraparound glazing dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, creating a fluid, immersive relationship with the sea and sky. More than a lounge, it is the heart of the World Traveller: a place where design, comfort, and the spirit of exploration converge: transforming every view into a lasting memory.
