Every ship has a heart. On Virgin Voyages, that heart has always been The Roundabout – a soaring atrium where Sailors first encounter the brand’s daring spirit. On Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady, it was bold and theatrical: terrazzo floors, a dramatic spiral staircase, a glowing compass ceiling and irreverent venues like the record shop and tattoo studio. Striking as it was, the space sometimes felt more like a dramatic corridor than a welcoming hub.
With Brilliant Lady, Virgin’s Design Team reimagined the Roundabout from the ground up. The goal: transform it from a sculptural statement into a living room at sea. That meant more openness, more comfort, more versatility — and, with the ship sailing to scenic regions like Alaska, stronger connections to the ocean views outside.
Bulkheads, dichroic fins, and oversized fixtures were stripped away to create flow. The iconic Chart Table was retired, replaced with a curated collection of lounge seating, complete with snug seating within the portholes. Shore Things now featured in a purposeful enclave, clearing congestion. Draught Haus was opened up and repositioned as a central anchor. The result is a space where circulation is fluid, sightlines extend across the atrium and out to sea and the architecture itself encourages people to gather.
Atmosphere was transformed through materiality and light. Where Scarlet Lady’s palette was graphic and bold, Brilliant Lady embraces jewel tones – deep sea blues, jammy reds and purples, pops of emerald – softened with warm woods, brass accents and sculpted banquettes. Lighting adapts with the day: sunlight streaming through panoramic windows, twilight tones echoing Alaskan evenings and a moody-glow by night. The effect is both luxurious and intimate, practical yet poetic.
Draught Haus evolved from a niche beer bar to an all-day destination. By morning it’s a coffee and juice bar; by day, a casual lounge or work hub; by night, a buzzing cocktail scene framed in warm wood, glowing shelves with fluted glass and plush seating. This flexibility embodies the Roundabout’s new identity: dynamic, welcoming, alive at every hour.
What was once a passage is now a main port of call. Brilliant Lady’s Roundabout is not just an atrium but a social living room – a place to start the day, pause in the afternoon, and celebrate by night. It honors Virgin’s bold DNA while embracing warmth, comfort, and flow. On Brilliant Lady, design has turned the heart of the ship into its soul.
