Xorel Luxe Upholstery should win Sustainable Product of the Year because it elevates responsible luxury in cruise interiors while reflecting Carnegie’s long-standing commitment to material innovation and accountability. As a B Corp certified manufacturer and a company that has been forever PVC-free for decades, Carnegie is independently verified to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and responsibility—ensuring sustainability is embedded not only in product development, but across operations, manufacturing practices, and broader impact on people, communities, and the environment.
Made with biobased Xorel yarn derived from rapidly renewable sugarcane, Xorel Luxe delivers a lower-impact upholstery solution without compromising the beauty, durability, cleanability, or compliance required for passenger shipping. Biobased Xorel has an embodied carbon footprint of 1.12 kg CO₂ per yard and captures 2.5 tons of carbon for every 1 ton of raw material produced, reinforcing its role as a material designed with climate impact in mind.
Xorel Luxe is also Cradle to Cradle Gold certified and supports a wide range of leading health and environmental standards, including OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, RoHS and REACH compliance, SCS Indoor Advantage™ Gold certification, and compliance with California Indoor Air Quality Specification CA 01350 and California Proposition 65. It also contributes toward LEED credits, strengthening its relevance in sustainable building and interior strategies.
Carnegie continues to expand Xorel Luxe with new designs, colors, and IMO-ready upholstery options, giving cruise designers more flexibility to specify sustainable materials across seating, wrapped panels, and hospitality environments. This ongoing development helps move responsible material innovation from a specialized option to a practical, design-forward standard in cruise interiors.
With X-Protect IMO backing, Xorel Luxe meets IMO 2010 FTP Code Part 8 and is now also Wheelmark certified. Its long service life, cleanability, indoor/outdoor performance, and finish-free construction help reduce unnecessary replacement cycles and support more efficient maintenance over time, further reinforcing its sustainability value in demanding marine environments.
