THE AWARDS
The first ever Cruise Ship Interiors Awards took place virtually 15th June 2020 and brought the cruise industry together to celebrate the incredible winners. Recognising and rewarding the excellence and innovation within our industry, winners included SMC Design, Virgin Voyages, Volume Creative, De Jorio Design, Carnival Cruise Line and Eumar design to name just a few. The ceremony didn’t just celebrate the companies in our industry, but the people as well, crowning Giacomo Mortola the Legend of Design, Callie Tedder-Hares as Rising Star and a surprise award to Jon Ingleton, who the judges felt deserved recognition for all he does in uniting the industry.

The Cruise Ship Interiors Awards is honoured to host a judging panel of industry experts, all of whom boast vast experience in the cruise interior design sector and will be trusted to handpick our finalists.

ALISON CLIXBY
Director Hotel Design & Projects | Carnival UK
As Hotel Design Director at Carnival UK, Alison is responsible for Cunard and P&O Cruises interior brand vision, development and implementation of hotel design, standards and specifications for refits and newbuilds. Currently immersed in the delivery of P&O Cruises Iona (2020) and the design of Cunard’s new ship (2022), Alison influences all public area and cabin spaces and product selection including furnishings, lighting, signage and art. With 28 years cruise ship design experience, Alison brings exceptional skill and expertise to her role and will be a welcome addition to the Cruise Ship Interiors Awards judging panel.

ANDREA BARTOLI
Principal Manager, Outfitting | Carnival Corporation
Andrea Bartoli has been in the cruise industry since 2002, starting his career as a Hotel Technical Supervisor at Costa Crociere. During this time Andrea realised his passion for the shipbuilding sector and since then has moved through the ranks at Carnival Corporate Shipbuilding where he has worked since 2015. Andrea has most recently taken the role of principal manager of outfitting, where he is responsible for newbuilding, refitting, and the drydock of passenger ships, working with all major shipyards. Andrea has had the pleasure of working on more than 50 cruise vessel projects, deliveries, and refurbishments, cementing him as an industry veteran and making him an ideal addition to the Awards’ judging panel.

Andrew Porter
Hotel Design Manager | Saga Cruises
Beginning his career in maritime more than 20 years ago as a project manager for Mivan Marine, Andrew Porter has been responsible for the design of numerous ocean-going interiors. One of Andrew’s first projects took place in 1995, when he worked closely with Nial Eide design and GEM to design areas onboard the Sun Princess newbuild at Fincantieri shipyard. Throughout his career, Andrew has worked on ships for most major cruise lines with many projects for P&O, Princess Cruises and Cunard, as well as undertaking numerous land-based projects, including luxury residential and hotels, notably working on a series of new Bulgari hotel projects with ACPV in Milan. Currently, Andrew is dedicating his time as design manager for Saga Cruises’ newbuild projects, with two ships planned for delivery in 2019 and 2020 respectively. Andrew’s vast and varied experience in both cruise and hospitality design makes him the ideal addition to our esteemed panel of judges.

ANTONIO DI NENNO
Architect Director, New Building Department | MSC Cruises
Since 2014, Antonio Di Nenno has been the lead architect for MSC Cruises’ new building department. Prior to his role with MSC, Antonio worked in the yacht design industry. In his current role, Antonio is involved in the development of all the new prototype ships designed for MSC Cruises, following the process from the concept design to the delivery. Antonio focuses his attention on the design and outfitting of guest cabins and public areas in order to ensure that the ship’s interiors are in line with MSC Cruises’ vision of the cruise experience. Antonio will lend his industry prowess to the CSIA as a judge.

DEE COOPER
Senior Vice President of Design and Customer Experience | Virgin Voyages
After serving in a consulting role for three years, Dee Cooper officially joined Virgin Voyages in 2015 and currently holds the role of senior vice president of design and customer experience. As a founding member of the Virgin Voyages team, Dee’s creative vision has helped guide the brand since its inception. In her role, Dee leads the Design Creative Collective, a team of some of the world’s most noteworthy modern interior designers - none of whom have ever designed for the cruise industry before. Dee carefully handpicked each designer and tasked them with reimagining how a holiday at sea could look and feel. Dee’s ability to handpick the very best in design talent makes her an ideal judge for the Cruise Ship Interiors Awards (CSIA), where she will assist her fellow panelists in selecting the most exceptional interior design from the past two years.

GEORGE SCAMMELL
Director of Interior Design & Operations | Princess Cruises
George Scammell is the director of interior design & operations at Holland America Group, serving Princess Cruises. He is responsible for leading the in-house design team in managing all interior design initiatives, supporting interior revitalisation, refurbishment, and maintenance for Princess’ fleet of 17 International ships. A global hospitality design leader, George has extensive experience in the hospitality, cruise, and leisure entertainment industry. As a certified veteran in the cruise interiors community, George’s concept of what comprises an exceptional piece of interior design is well-respected industry wide. With more than 20 years’ experience designing for the hospitality market, CSIA is grateful for George’s unwavering support.

MY NGUYEN
Director of Interior Design & Operations | Holland America Line & Seabourn
Seattle-based designer My Nguyen holds degrees in Interior Design and Fine Arts and currently works as director of interior design & operations at Seabourn. Throughout her career, My has earned accolades for award-winning and nationally recognised projects in marine, high-end residential, and hospitality design. She joined Holland America Group in a newly created leadership role to form an in-house design team that oversees the interior refurbishments and maintenance of Holland America Line and Seabourn’s fleet. My is also the head designer of staterooms on Holland America Line newbuild vessels. My’s diverse knowledge and expertise means she will be a valuable judge across all awards categories

PARIS SWANN
Director, Architectural Design, Newbuild and Innovation | Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd
Paris M. Swann joined Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCL) in 2017 and has played a key role in the success of the designs of the latest Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean Cruises projects, including the award-winning Celebrity Edge and Symphony of the Seas. As the primary design lead for multiple projects, Swann overseas the development and integration of innovative and market-leading designs from over 25 different architects, designers and consultants from across the globe. Her focus includes the market-shattering Edge Series and the “revolutionary” modernisation of the existing fleet for Celebrity Cruises, as well as the world's largest cruise ship Symphony of the Seas and the future vessels in the Oasis Class for Royal Caribbean International. Prior to joining RCL, Swann enjoyed an accomplished career in New York City with extensive experience in leading land-based hospitality projects across more than thirty global properties and a clear passion for leveraging collaboration and innovation to create market-defining hospitality experiences, making her an ideal panelist at the CSIA awards.

PETRA RYBERG
Head of Design | P&O Australia
Embarking on her career as an interior designer in 2010, Petra is now head of design at P&O Australia. During her studies, Petra was awarded her first internship at Wilson Associates, Dallas, before being transferred to New York, where she assisted on hospitality projects for large hotels and restaurants. Immediately after finishing her degree in interior design, Petra landed a job with Hirsch Bedner Associates in London, where she spent most of her time working on a project for Ritz Carlton in Tunisia. After her time in London, Petra returned to Sweden, where she joined Tillberg Design of Sweden and started designing cruise ships for a variety of brands. Petra’s diverse experience within both the hospitality and cruise industry, has equipped her with the skill to identify exceptional design, making her a fantastic addition to CSIA’s panel of judges.

PETU KUMMALA
Senior Director of Interior Design & Architecture | Carnival Cruise Line
Having held a keen eye for design and creation since childhood, Petu’s career began at Kone-Plan OY/Deltamarin Group, a firm that specialises in ship design and engineering, where one of his clients was Carnival Cruise Line. That is where he met Joe Farcus, the legendary designer who was involved in creating the interiors of all Carnival’s ships from 1975 until his retirement in 2013. When Farcus offered Kummala the opportunity to join his firm, Kummala says that it took less than 10 seconds for him to make his decision. After working on 17 Carnival, nine Costa and few other brands’ ships, Kummala launched 358 Design, which he still operates. But in 2015, Carnival asked him to join its staff, where he is now director of interior design & architecture. Selected for his many years’ experience operating in the cruise industry, Petu will lend his valuable expertise to the CSIA judging panel.
